Melody analysis of the newborn infant cries

چکیده
the melody analysis of the infant cries was performed manually in the past. based on subjective listening, only estimations could be achieved about the real melodies. a novel method had been introduced a few years ago to categorize the melody shapes. it says that the melodies of the infant cries are combined from elementary units. the melody shapes can be classified according to the order of these elementary units. utilizing this automatized system authors showed that there are 39 different melody shapes of the newborn infant cries, the top 15 categories cover the 93% of the analyzed 580 melodies.

Analysis of infant cries for the early detection of hearing impairment
Auditory and instrumental analysis of cries from normally hearing and profoundly hearing-impaired infants (2-11 month) is presented. Results from listening experiments lead to the assumption that differences exist between cries from the two infant groups. Attributes expressing the difference are related to the emotional state of the infant, to prosodic features, and to voice quality. Signal ana...
متن کاملNewborns' Cry Melody Is Shaped by Their Native Language
Human fetuses are able to memorize auditory stimuli from the external world by the last trimester of pregnancy, with a particular sensitivity to melody contour in both music and language. Newborns prefer their mother's voice over other voices and perceive the emotional content of messages conveyed via intonation contours in maternal speech ("motherese"). Their perceptual preference for the surr...
متن کاملFrequential Characterization of Healthy and Pathologic Newborns Cries
In this paper, we present recent developments in the characterizat ion of healthy and pathologic cries of newborns. We have identified and quantified acoustic characteristics that appear the most relevant in differentiating between pathological and healthy cries; such as fundamental frequency (F0), irregularity of F0 and presence of hyper-phonic modes. The results obtained are very encouraging,...
متن کاملMethylation of the Glucocorticoid Receptor (NR3C1) in Placenta Is Associated with Infant Cry Acoustics
Epigenetic mechanisms regulating expression of the glucocorticoid receptor gene (NR3C1) promoter may influence behavioral and biological aspects of stress response in human infants. Acoustic features of infant crying are an indicator of neurobehavioral and neurological status not yet investigated in relation to epigenetic mechanisms. We examined NR3C1 methylation in placental tissue from a seri...
متن کاملEvidence for a Caregiving Instinct: Rapid Differentiation of Infant from Adult Vocalizations Using Magnetoencephalography
Crying is the most salient vocal signal of distress. The cries of a newborn infant alert adult listeners and often elicit caregiving behavior. For the parent, rapid responding to an infant in distress is an adaptive behavior, functioning to ensure offspring survival. The ability to react rapidly requires quick recognition and evaluation of stimuli followed by a co-ordinated motor response. Prev...
